Cheshire Pollinator Pathway
at Lock 12

This was another major project that followed the original garden. The area had been neglected for so long. The project was a habitat restoration, removing invasives like barberry, Mugwort and multiflora rose and replacing them with native shrubs and trees to benefit birds and pollinators and open the water view for everyone to enjoy.

The project could not have been done without SustainableCT's Community Match Fund, a crowdfunding campaign that saw us raise more than our goal and then was matched by SustainableCT.

Today the site has beautiful water views of the Willow Brook and a fabulous garden of dwarf pine, chokeberry, serviceberry, sweet fern, cranberry viburnums, mountain mint and more.

The Willow Brook at Lock 12

The view we opened up is such a lovely sight in fall and all seasons. People make a point to stop and watch the water now.

Leave the Leaves

Leaves are cover for overwintering butterflies, native bees and others. Caterpillars and insects are also the prime bird feed in winter.

Lock 12

Fall looks good on us at Lock 12. The garden here is comprised mainly of shrubs like Sweet Fern, Winterberry and Dwarf Pine.

Take a Seat, Take a Bow

Here's a few of our volunteers after doing the last of the planting for the season at Lock 12. Well. Done. Take a Seat. Take a Bow! :)

Summer Lock 12.jpg

Lock 12

Native shrubs are punctuated with colorful summer annuals. An upgrade from what this site used to look like.

Lock 12 Definitely Before

This was what the area looked like- all tangled invasives. No view. Nothing good. We had a vision for something better for the town.
